Indeterminate Open-Pollinated · Seeded February 17 · Flowering now, first ripe fruit in 4–6 weeks · Full sun

📦 What's Included

This isn't a tomato start. It's an Alchemy Garden — seeded in February, fed on the farm, flowering and fruiting now, delivered ready to harvest from. You skip the hardest eight weeks of tomato growing and go straight to the table.

Every Insta-Garden comes with:

  • Established 2-ft tomato plant in a 3-gallon soft pot, seeded February 17 and grown out on-farm
  • 2.5 ft support stake installed (indeterminate varieties will outgrow this — plan to upsize by July)
  • 0.5 lb of Alchemy Gardens weekly feed — the same Mittleider-based formula I use on all 246 tomato plants across my farm, tomato/pepper optimized
  • Pre-measured weekly scoop — no guessing, no math
  • One-page growing and feeding instructions — written for Tulsa conditions

You water. You feed once a week. You harvest.

📖 The story

Bred by Brad Gates of Wild Boar Farms, whose breeding work is nothing short of legendary in heirloom circles. Gates got his start roughly twenty years ago working a couple of farmers' markets for a friend when heirloom tomatoes were just being rediscovered. Intrigued by the colors and the prices quality heirlooms were fetching, he began growing them around Napa, California — and within a few seasons had trialed over 200 cultivars. He watches for what he calls "gifts of nature" — clearly superior plants — and saves seed from the best of the best year after year. Brad's Atomic Grape won Best in Show at the 2017 National Heirloom Expo, one of the show's highest honors, judged on flavor, appearance, and texture. Gates calls his varieties "the Heirlooms of the Future."

🍴 What you're getting

Long plum-shaped large cherries, about 5–7 cm. Stunning bright-green fruits with golden-red stripes. Crack-resistant, firm, well-balanced, sweet, juicy tomato flavor. Fruits shift colors as they ripen — lavender-purple when young, transitioning through olive-green, red, brown, and anthocyanin blue at full ripeness. Interior is green with a red blush when fully ripe.

📅 What to expect

First fruit takes a bit longer than the other cherries in the lineup — a slightly slower variety. Long continuous harvest once established. Wispy foliage hides a rugged constitution; the plant is more productive than it looks.

💧 Care in Tulsa

Water 2x per week, consistently. Heavy mulch. One scoop of feed per week. Pick regularly to keep production going. Color develops fully with maximum sun exposure — don't shade this one unnecessarily.

☀️ Heat mitigation

Handles heat well once established. Flavor concentrates best with consistent, not excessive, watering. Standard mulch and morning water routine.

🛡️ Common problems

Crack-resistant — a real advantage through Oklahoma rain-then-drought cycles. Wispy foliage helps airflow naturally. Watch for early blight and aphids.
